After six months of frustration watching my new stainless steel appliances develop water spots that seemed impossible to remove, I knew something had to change. The final straw came when my dishwasher repair technician told me the heating element was already showing mineral buildup after just eight months of use. My first impression was how substantial everything felt. The mineral tank is constructed from high-grade fiberglass with a seamless design – no visible joints or seams that might fail over time. At 54 inches tall and 13 inches in diameter, it’s definitely a presence in our utility room, but the neutral beige color blends well.

The SoftPro Valve is where the engineering really shows. Unlike the plastic valves I’d seen on cheaper units, this has a robust construction with clearly labeled ports and connections. The LCD display was already functional out of the box, cycling through system status information.

The brine tank included a high-efficiency salt grid system that keeps salt elevated above water level, preventing bridging issues I’d read about in other systems. The safety float and overflow fitting gave me confidence about flood protection.

Installation Experience: Medium Difficulty But Manageable

The installation manual rated this as “intermediate” difficulty, and I’d agree with that assessment. While not requiring professional plumbing skills, you definitely need comfort working with pipe connections and basic electrical wiring.

**Pre-installation preparation took longer than expected.**

I needed to install a dedicated 15-amp electrical circuit in our utility room, as the SoftPro Valve requires consistent power for its efficiency monitoring. The drain line connection was more involved than anticipated – the system requires a 1.5-inch drain line with specific air gap requirements for the regeneration cycle.

The bypass valve installation was straightforward thanks to SoftPro’s compression fittings. I chose to install unions on both sides of the system, which added $30 in materials but makes future maintenance much easier. The whole setup connects into your main water line with a simple three-valve bypass system.

**Where I encountered challenges was getting the system level and properly supported.**

**The transformation in water quality was noticeable within 24 hours of installation.**

Using the included TDS meter, I measured our incoming city water at 340 parts per million total dissolved solids. After the SoftPro Elite HE system, that number dropped to 195 PPM – a significant reduction that translates to real-world benefits.

Hardness elimination was complete according to my test strips. Our incoming water tested at 18 grains per gallon hardness (quite hard), while post-system water showed zero hardness minerals.
